The ACMA Communications report 2017–18 highlights the striking pace of change in the Australian communications and media landscape.

Key highlights

Our ever-increasing appetite for content and services has driven unprecedented developments over the last four years.

  • Data use continues to rise, with mobile downloads increasing five-fold and fixed-line downloads almost tripling from 2014 to 2018.
  • Almost three-quarters of Australian internet users use apps to communicate.
  • The number of adults using five or more devices jumped to 40%.
  • Industry and government made significant investments in communications infrastructure in 2017–18

The report also provides an overview of the Australian telecommunications industry’s performance and fulfils the ACMA’s statutory reporting requirements under Section 105 of the Telecommunications Act 1997.
